Having worked for many years in the gaming industry, and more recently in live entertainment alongside artists from the VFX industry, I feel like the current trends and advances in virtual production are only the tip of the iceberg. This tool is an attempt at pushing the possibilities a little further by providing playback of complex, animated scenes and motion graphics created in tools such as Maya, Houdini, Cinema4D, 3dsmax, etc, in real-time engines like Unreal. It was developed for artists in the VFX industry who love to dabble in Unreal but often feel constrained by its limitations (mostly around fixed mesh topologies and texture maps). I hope that it will enable both creative and technical minds out there to experiment on big new things!
As of today, version 0.1.2 Alpha of the Kimura Player plugin is available for both Unreal Engine 4.27 and Unreal Engine 5 Early Access (5.0). It's a solid release but is still in its alpha phase. There are plenty of updates left to be made, and probably even bugs to fix. Feedback, bug reports and feature requests are most welcome.
